This term, as part of their ‘Beating Heart’ topic, the children in Badger Class have explored different ways of staying healthy; they have tasted new and different food, talked about how important it is to get enough sleep and also learned about staying fit by exercising. They have also been investigating different parts of their bodies; they have listened to their hearts beating and their bodies feeling warm after jumping up and down, and made skeleton pictures during discussions about their bones. All of the activities have been very exciting but everyone agrees that the visit to the hospital ward at University Academy Holbeach was definitely the best bit of this term’s topic! With blood pressure monitors, real hospital beds and of course the wonderful Nurses (UAH’s T Level Healthcare students), it was truly a real-life hospital learning experience for Badger Class. Badger Class children investigated a life-sized skeleton, listened to each other’s heartbeats using the stethoscopes, watched the nurses take blood pressure readings and also took each other’s temperatures. Going to a medical appointment can be a worrying time for our children and having this experience with such relaxed and friendly students (and staff!) from UAH will hopefully make future appointments a little bit easier.

Here is our Christmas Card Design winner’s card. Harry is aged 5 and attends Gosberton House Academy, our ‘outstanding’ special school in the the Trust.

For this term’s WOW Experience, Squirrel Class, Badger Class and Dolphin Class were lucky enough to have a visit from Jennifer, who brought some African drums into school. Traditional African drums are an essential part of the continent’s music, culture, and communication – the music is deeply tied to storytelling, rituals, ceremonies, and community life. Learning drumming takes focus, coordination, and listening.

We listened to the drummer play different African rhythms and sounds on the drums and we were lucky enough to have a go ourselves. We took it in turns to watch our friends play the drums- it was great fun

At Gosberton House Academy we have the annual privilege of creating a display for Gosberton Methodist Church’s Flower Festival.
This year’s theme was “Sing Out Loud!” and Swan Class and Squirrel Class were tasked with creating some beautiful art work for a display within the Church.

Swan Class have focused on nature and the song birds that we hear around school.

Squirrel Class have focused on songs within cultures and have created the display lettering by African style printing.

Gosberton House Academy have been very lucky and have been donated a Brilliant Box of Books from the charity Read For Good. Every Brilliant Box of Books contains a fantastic selection of books, comics & graphic novels as well as some additional resources. Our box is full of lots of wonderful reading material which I am sure we will all enjoy throughout school. The school council are going to deliver a selection of the books to classes and the library.
