Super Learning Day: An Inspiring Celebration of Opportunity, Aspiration and Real-World Learning

On Wednesday 28th January 2026, our Academy proudly hosted a truly memorable Super Learning Day – an enriching and inspiring experience that brought learning to life for pupils across all year groups. The day was designed to broaden horizons, raise aspirations and provide meaningful, real-world learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Thanks to the outstanding commitment of staff, external partners and visiting professionals, the event was an overwhelming success.

Throughout the day, pupils participated in a carefully planned programme of workshops, talks and interactive sessions, rotating through activities tailored to their year group. The aim was simple but powerful: to expose pupils to a wide range of careers, life skills and social issues, while developing confidence, curiosity and ambition.

Year 7 pupils began their Super Learning Day with energy and enthusiasm, taking part in a range of engaging and hands-on experiences. A highlight of the day was the STEM Challenge delivered by the Royal Navy, which encouraged pupils to work collaboratively, think creatively and apply problem-solving skills in real-world scenarios. Pupils were also thrilled to take part in a large-scale tower-building challenge led by Willmott Dixon, where teamwork, communication and resilience were key to success. In addition, pupils benefited from an insightful session with Channel 4, offering a fascinating glimpse into careers within the media industry. A practical First Aid session equipped pupils with essential life skills, while the ever-popular Dogs in the Police Force workshop captivated pupils as they learned about the vital role of service animals in policing and community safety.

Year 8 pupils enjoyed a full Science Forensics Workshop Day, immersing themselves in hands-on investigative activities. Pupils explored forensic techniques, evidence analysis and scientific reasoning, developing both their analytical thinking and their appreciation of how science is applied in real careers. The session sparked curiosity and excitement, with many pupils expressing a newfound interest in forensic science and STEM-related pathways.

For Year 9, the focus was firmly on safety, responsibility and informed decision-making. Delivered in partnership with the Lincolnshire Authority, pupils participated in a series of impactful sessions covering Online Safety, Drug Awareness, Knife Crime, Fire Safety and Harmful Behaviour. These sessions were both informative and thought-provoking, empowering pupils with knowledge to make

University Academy Long Sutton’s (UALS) new building remains fully on track for its opening in 2026. The building continues to make rapid progress each week and is certainly impressive, giving us all a glimpse of what is to come soon for our pupils and staff at that site.

The building will complete on time in June for pupils in Years 7 – 10 to transition into the space and begin familiarising themselves with their exciting new environment.

After this the remaining older buildings will be demolished to make way for the new MUGA space, bus area and environmental zone with its pond. This is a truly exciting project indeed.

We will have more about the official opening ceremony in the coming months.

We had a busy careers fair on Wednesday this week with the the return of our annual fair at University Academy Long Sutton. All pupils had the opportunity to experience this event where over 90 local employers, colleges and training providers were available to speak with them about post-16 options and future career pathways.

We were also delighted that so many parents and carers took the chance to attend in the afternoon, to explore the opportunities available and support their child as they begin planning for life beyond school, and for their own careers too.

A special mention to the array of staff and pupils from University Academy Holbeach who also came to support to explain our wonderful career pathways (like our T’Level in Health in the pictures) at their Sixth Form and through our trust as we are an apprenticeship provider, currently teaching 132 apprentices alone.

A HUGE thank you to all that made the event happen behind the scenes but of course to the employers too

On Wednesday, UALS took 65 pupils from KS3 on a trip to the Tower of London. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to deepen their understanding of British history, particularly the Tudor and medieval periods.

The pupils were well-behaved and engaged throughout the day, asking thoughtful questions and showing genuine interest in the stories and artefacts on display. Staff were impressed by their enthusiasm and positive attitude. Overall, it was a successful and enjoyable trip that enriched pupils’ learning beyond the classroom.
